    The Event:

    Our charity open water swim takes place at the beautiful Lake Jocassee in Northern South Carolina. Swimmers have an option to swim a 1.2 or 2.4 mile open water swim. Proceeds go the support scholarships for at-risk youth in our communities and education on water safety awareness.

    Where: Lake Jocassee - Salem, South Carolina

    Lake Jocassee is a 7,500-acre, 300-foot deep reservoir located in northwest South Carolina created by the state in partnership with Duke Power in 1973. The lake is commonly known for the clean and cold Appalachian mountain rivers that feed the lake to keep its waters cool and clear year-round. The Jocassee Dam, which forms the lake, is 385 feet high and 1,750 feet long. The lake is home to Devils Fork State Park.

    Two Course Options:  1.2 mile and 2.4 mile

    The event will start at Devils Fork State Park. The course will be an out and back course for both the 1.2 and 2.4 mile swim. Buoys will mark the course and kayaks and boats will be on the course.

    Timeline:  Saturday-   September 17, 2016

    • 7:45-8:30 AM:  Check-in and numbering

    • 9:00 AM:          ONE MILE SWIM  Wave One Start

    • 9:30 AM:          TWO MILE SWIM Wave One Start    

                          *Required Pre-Race Briefing @ 8:45 AM

    • 10:00 AM:              POST GATHERING FOOD/Live MUSIC

    • All swimmers are required to wear the swim cap provided at all times during the race. All swimmers will be identified by a number on swim cap and on swimmers body (arm/back). Any swimmer crossing the Finish line without a swim cap will be disqualified.
    • Currently the Upstate Splash does not utilize USA swimming's rules on swimsuits. If you are swimming in the Upstate Splash event, it is for fun and  you can wear anything you want.
    • Flotation devices and/or equipment such as snorkels or fins are not permitted. Permissible gear is limited to: goggles/mask, nose clip, ear plugs, swimsuit and required cap.
    • Wet suits or technical suits are allowed.
    • All swimmers must attend the pre-race safety briefing to be held before race is started. All swimmers must go through the head count in order to start the race.
    • Seeding: Entries will be seeded fast to slow using submitted Mile time.  Entries will be divided into waves and started in three minute intervals.

    Rules & Policies:

    This event does not issue refunds or withdraws. Event entries are not transferable between persons, events or years.

    In the event of inclement weather the event will be postponed in hopes the inclement weather will pass. If the inclement weather does not pass in time to complete the event safely in the original or modified format, the event will be cancelled.

    Every effort will be made to hold this event on time on this date. Should this event be cancelled due to an Act of God or other circumstance beyond the race directors control there will be no refunds, credits, or transfers.

    NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to this policy. By registering for this event you agree to this weather policy.

    Safety- Our Primary Concern: Safety boats will monitor the entire course and medical personnel will be on-site.  Swimmers must wear the swim cap provided, must have their race number on their arms, and must follow all announced safety rules with out exception.
